2016 Season off to a Quick Start

With an unbelievably mild winter and weather patterns that resemble this “spring” thing that I hear people rave so much about, my peonies have decided to show up fashionably early this year.I first noticed signs of activity on April 1st, after I returned from a trip to the west coast. This is over two weeks earlier than when the plants broke dormancy last year. Though we have had a short period of cold weather between then and now (which hopefully did not blast any buds), things seem to be moving  rather quickly this year. At the time of writing many plants have started unfurling and leafing out and my fern leaf  will likely bloom sometime in the following week. Here’s hoping for a great growing season.
